Seacology is the world's premier nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to preserving the environments and cultures of islands throughout the globe. Seacology strives to not only protect the local environment, but also provide islanders with tangible economic benefits. Furthermore, all Seacology’s programs are locally managed. This high level of education and community involvement form the basis of Seacology’s motto: “Saving the world…one island village at a time.”
“Restoring the Bay's ecosystem...from the Sierra to the sea" is the ambitious mission of The Bay Institute of San Francisco. Through a combination of scientific research and political advocacy, the Institute works to protect and restore the entire watershed that runs into San Francisco Bay. This includes the Sacramento River and the San Joaquin Rivers as well as their tributaries.
The Rainforest Action Network works to protect tropical rainforests and the human rights of those living in and around them. Their platform includes certified logging, consumption reduction, transformation of government and corporate policy and sustainable economic development.
Treasure Island Sailing Club's youth and adaptive sailing programs introduce the joy, independence and self reliance of the sport to thousands of kids each year. No matter what socioeconomic background, level, or physical ability, each child in their program develops the life skills of teamwork, communication, decision making and responsibility. T.I.S.C offers full or partial scholarships to over 80% of their youth participants and their success depends on the dedication of their sponsors and volunteer
