Why do you sail?

Sailing allows me to leave behind all the outside influences in my life, quite my mind and be present in the moment. I can enjoy the sounds sights and smells of the sea. when I'm on the water its about harnessing natures forces to propel me tward a goal.

What drew you to working at OCSC? Or what do you enjoy about working at OCSC?

The shear amount of passion for the sport I love shared amongst the staff students and members. Sailing is not easy especially on San Francisco Bay but we are all there because we want to take on that challenge.

What's your sailing background?

I stared racing sailboats on Puget Sound (Seattle area) and fell in love with the sport. I continued sailing in the area for 10 years with a mix of racing and crusing sailing on a numbers of different boat and eventually bought my own. During that time I joined the U.S. Coast Guard and spent 8 years traveling the world protecting our ports and assiting boaters in their time of need.

When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?

Building crazy art installation for the Burning Man festival.

What are your favorite sailing books of all time?

  • The Complete Sailor by David Seidman
  • The Barque of Saviors by Russell Drumm
