OCSC: Why do you sail?

I’m adventurous by nature, and when I got introduced to sailing, a new world was opened up to me. The more I’ve learned about sailing, the more I’ve become fascinated to its depth. I enjoy being out in the water, the movement, the physics, the views, the responsibility, etc.

Sailing is an art. By changing the rigging, rudder, or other parts, a sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails in order to change the direction and speed of a boat. Mastery of the skill requires experience in varying wind and sea conditions, as well as knowledge concerning sailboats. I plan on gaining more experience and mastering many aspects of sailing. Oh yeah, and did I mention that it’s a team sport as well? That’s what I’m talking about!!!

OCSC: What do you enjoy about working at OCSC?

As someone I respect always says: “Life is good!”. I agree. I think his mentality reflects most of the personalities and positive attitudes of the OCSC Community, not to mention the respectful and admirable managerial mentality both owners bring forth to the table. I enjoy the interactions I have with my team and find myself continually learning from everyone how to be better in many aspects of life, not just sailing. As far as the location, it’s incredible! Its location alone helps bring people together and involve them in many of our activities. Very nice…

OCSC: What's your sailing background?

I sailed a few times when I was younger in El Salvador. Other than that, most of my sailing background has been shaped since I joined OCSC in 2008.

OCSC: When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?

Traveling, playing or watching sports, spending time with friends and family, music, hobbies, etc.

OCSC: What are your favorite sailing books of all time?

The Sailor’s Handbook – The Essential Sailing Manual (Halsey C. Herreshoff)

Cruising Guide to San Francisco Bay (Carolyn & Bob Mehaffy)

The Cruising Guide to Central and Southern California (Brian Fagan)

Moby Dick (Herman Melville)
