OCSC: Why do you sail?
MS: Sailing calms down my mind. When I go sailing, there is nothing else in the world I think about, then the moment I am in. Living in a busy world, this is an unbelievably satisfying experience. I also like the fact how you become part of the elements instead of being just surrounded by them.
OCSC: What do you enjoy about working at OCSC?
MS: Definitely the people working here. Every one of them makes this a real special and fun place to be.
OCSC: What's your sailing background?
MS: I started sailing on an Optimist when I was nine years old and sailed it mostly just for fun. At the sweet age of 14 I got an old wooden Flying Dutchman, restored it with my dad and started sailing regattas. I got seriously into comptition and spent more time on the water then on land. After I finished my Masters in Business Administration (why did I do that again??), I went to England and got my Yachtmaster Ocean certificate. Just recently I also became a US Sailing Basic Keelboat instructor.
OCSC: When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?
MS: I love doing all kinds of sports and activities. Trying out new stuff is one of my biggest hobbies.
OCSC: What are your top five sailing books of all time?
MS: Boat Owner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual (sailors bible!), Close to the Wind by Pete Goss, Taking on the World by Ellen Mc Arthur, Allein gegen den Wind by Wilfried Erdmann.
