Trevor Steel

OCSC US Sailing Instructor

OCSC Office Staff - April TOn Board Since September 2011

Why do you sail?

Sailing is one of the few remaining, truly honest activities available. In sailing there are no excuses…only consequences.

What do you enjoy about working at OCSC?

I love to sail and I love to teach. The opportunity to do both at the same time could not be passed up. The opportunity to sail and teach at a school with the reputation of OCSC was irresistible.

What's your sailing background?

I began sailing in Australia but did not begin serious sail education until moving to the US in 1992. Since then, I’ve owned several boats, refurbishing them from inexpensive hulls through to sound cruising vessels.

When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?

When I’m not sailing I enjoy doing and occasionally teaching Tai Chi Chuan. Working on boats needing love.

What are your favorite sailing books of all time?

  • The Hornblower series by C.S. Forrester
  • The Way of the Ship by Derek Lundy
  • Two Years Before the Mast
  • Voyage of the Bounty
  • Hard on the Wind by Russ Hofvendahl
