Onboard since 1997
OCSC: What sailing experience did you have before you came to OCSC?
KW: My experience was limited to sailing small keelboats on lakes in Wisconsin.
OCSC: What do you like about sailing?
KW: In general, I enjoy being outside and doing water related activities. I find sailing relaxing and a nice way to socialize with friends.
OCSC: What brought you to OCSC?
KW: I visited the Berkeley area for a job interview and enjoyed watching boats come into the Marina; most were sailboats. I decided then that if I moved to California, I wanted to learn to sail on the San Francisco Bay.
OCSC: Why did you decide to become a member?
KW: At the time my interest was in taking sailing courses, but I soon discovered other benefits of becoming an OCSC member. It has been a nice way to meet quality people. I met one of my best friends at OCSC. We have been sailing together since the spring of 1997. I’ve had the pleasure of sailing in the British Virgin Islands, Sea of Cortez, Kingdom of Tonga, Tahiti, Leeward Islands and Belize, which I never would have done if I hadn’t joined OCSC. The trips were fun and excellent learning experiences.
OCSC: What sailing goals do you have?
KW: No major goals, I just want to enjoy day sailing for now.
OCSC: What do you do when you're not sailing?
KW: Mainly work; I’m a veterinarian.
