US Sailing Certifications: Basic Keelboat to Offshore Passagemaking
Anyone new to sailing should start with courses that will set them on the path to ASA certification by US Sailing. Start with our Basic Keelboat class, which matches US Sailing's Keelboat certification, and you've got the first building blocks to sailboat certification. From there, you can move on to more advanced classes and more US Sailing certifications in a step-by-step approach. Before long, you'll be able charter your own boat and cruise safely anywhere in the world.
Become a confident skipper with the following certification courses:
This is the perfect starting point for beginners and for those who have experience but want to learn to sail right. Basic Keelboat is the first half of the training needed to become a confident skipper on San Francisco Bay.
Basic Cruising is the second half of the training you'll want to have before taking your family and friends out sailing on San Francisco Bay. This "Learn-to-Skipper" course is as comprehensive as you'll find.
"Bareboat" simply means renting a boat without a hired skipper. In this course, you'll learn how to apply your skills as a skipper on boats between 30- and 40-feet long. Once you're certified in Bareboat Cruising, a Caribbean vacation can become a reality.
Six additional seminars are included in the Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, and Bareboat Cruising courses. We maximize your time on the water by holding these seminars separate from your on-the-water training.
Certification courses to prepare you for coastal cruising:
While in earlier courses you'll learn the basics of navigation, in this course you'll master all the subtle secrets of the most ancient of maritime skills.
Between here and Acapulco, rocky shores and fog can challenge even the most seasoned sailors. Learn safe long distance coastal cruising in the most challenging section of coast in the US.
Certification courses to prepare you for offshore cruising:
Sailing by the stars, as our ancestors did, is both an art and a science. Learn to sail your way from the Big Dipper to the Southern Cross. This is also a prerequisite for our Offshore Passagemaking course.
Open sea calls. If you plan to join the rugged sailing elite and cross an ocean blue, then you need to challenge your hard-earned skills off the coast of California.
