Sail in the British Virgin Islands (The BVIs) among spectacular anchorages, hidden sandy coves and endless palm fringed beaches on this tropical adventure where you will find the crystal clear warm waters for snorkeling, swimming and kayaking. A ten flotilla here really allows you to explore this destination and reach the further a field spots! Perfect for all levels of sailor. Photographers, historians, sunworshippers and water babies, the young and old alike, will all find inspiration in this amazing adventure
A British Virgin Islands flotilla sailing vacation allows you the freedom to explore the beautiful islands stretching around the protected Sir Frances Drake Channel, moving between the larger islands - Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and Anegada, famous for its lobster – and those that are smaller and more intimate. Trust the trade winds to carry you to whatever you're looking for.
Easy deep-water hops, line of sight navigation and consistent trade winds make for a relaxing and family-friendly sailing experience. Crystal-clear waters, boulder-formed caves, and picture-perfect beaches combine with oceanfront resorts and restaurants to provide sailors with a colorful wealth of welcomes.
Our BVI Tortola base just keeps getting better. A multi-million-dollar facelift includes new dockside dining areas, a complete makeover of the bar and restaurant, an expanded pool area, and a new grocery store and customer service center. The base has everything to make your sailing vacation perfect!
Easy deep-water island-hops, consistent breezes, line-of-sight navigation in protected waters and numerous anchorages for evenings ashore make this the ideal island paradise for less experienced sailors or those who simply want a more relaxed vacation. And you can island hop throughout the BVI without the hassles of customs clearance. No wonder this is our most popular destination.
With a cruising area 32 miles long (48 km) and half that in width, the BVI is home to an infinite variety of vacations and the largest fleet of Moorings yachts. Clear waters invite you to glide along a rainbow of coral and fish as you explore the world beneath the surface. Ashore, you'll enjoy the colorful company of waterfront resorts, restaurants, lively nightlife and shopping.
The ten day British Virgin Islands (BVI) flotilla offers views of over 60 islands which make up this beautiful archipelago. With deep water seperating the islands and easy navigation, this area is ideal even for those with limited experience.
Summer winds are generally lighter and from the south-east with more wind during December and January. Winds in the winter are generally north-east trade winds, in summer they come from the south-east. Temperatures average 78 - 86 F (26 - 30 C) year round.
Snorkel the caves at Treasure Point on Norman Island, believed to have been the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Dive the wreck of The Rhone at Salt Island. And no trip is complete without a visit to The Baths at Virgin Gorda, nature's Stonehenge by the sea.
The passage north to Anegada is a uniquely rewarding adventure with a low-lying island of fine beaches and snorkeling sites. Make the journey with our regularly scheduled Passage To Paradise flotillas and you'll enjoy the expert guidance of a lead boat and a rum punch party at Bitter End Yacht Club. Then sail on to Jost Van Dyke, home to only 180 residents. Sail back to Cane Garden Bay, anchor, then navigate the island's rum distillery. But all sailors are certain to enjoy the spirited soul of every BVI adventure - the legendary Sir Francis Drake Channel.
If you haven’t been on a flotilla before, here’s how it works. OCSC reserves multiple boats for the location and holds a series of planning parties to explain the details and answer questions from anyone who is interested. Some members choose to reserve a whole boat with their friends and family; some hook up with other singles or couples to form their own boat; a third option is to reserve a cabin on a boat skippered by an OCSC Instructor.
Flotilla charters are ideal for first-time skippers since OCSC helps in cruise planning, introduces individuals to others interested in sharing a yacht, and sends an experienced ‘group leader’ along. The security in this type of ‘buddy-boating’ is a primary reason for flotilla-style chartering, but the ease of participation and ‘instant parties’ make a first charter that much more enjoyable.
